The internet has a large collection of tests, instruments, and other assessment tools for measuring personality, traits, intelligence, academic skills, and so forth. Unfortunately, most of these measures have not been adequately validated and therefore may be more interesting from an entertainment perspective, than from a mental health perspective. It can be difficult to know if an instrument has gone through the rigors of validity and reliability testing and unless this information is posted, it is likely that it has not been done.
Without knowing that a measure is valid or even reliable, it is impossible to determine if the measure is an accurate appraisal of what is being sized up. So please use caution with online questionnaires and surveys and don't read too much into them if they haven't been researched thoroughly.
There are some instruments that have withstood the test of time and have appeared in the scientific literature. We have more confidence in those measures and those are the ones that will appear listed on freementalhealth. Many of these measures were funded initially by your tax dollars and are in the public domain.
